Adelle Abney Designs

The designers at Adelle Abney Designs are the rare, refreshing type who appreciate both excellent visual design and web standards and accessibility. After a few years in the business, however, their markup was beginning to show its age with leftover tables and image maps from a bygone era.

Meanwhile, Infocraft just didn't look good at all: I do many things, but graphic design is not one of them.

It was a perfect match.

As Adelle Abney was busy producing the design you're currently enjoying, I optimized their website. While I was under the hood, I deployed consistent stylesheets across the site (with a new liquid layout), recast each page in valid, strict XHTML, and designed an elegant, intuitive portfolio manager in PHP and MySQL. Just for kicks, I threw in a couple of Javascript goodies, like the clickable rotating images on the front page and a slick scroller that adjusts as you resize the window.

The average HTML file was reduced by 67% per page, and the average page size was reduced by 41% overall. The structure of the site was greatly simplified as well, reducing the number of pages from sixteen to seven and rolling three MySQL tables into one with no loss in functionality.
